In
September of 2006 the Washington
County Arts Council was created
by the Washington County
Commissioners, and since that
time the Council has presented
seven programs of music and art,
all of which have been
well-received by the community.
The
Washington County Arts Council
is a non-profit organization,
its sole purpose being to
promote the arts by stimulating
governmental and public
awareness and appreciation of
the importance of the arts to
the citizens of Washington
County.
Scholarship Winner 2009
Chipley High School Senior
Tabitha Simone Shumaker will
be presented the Washington
County Arts Council $500
Fine Arts Scholarship for
her winning essay, “Music is
Everything”, at 2009 Senior
Awards Night at Chipley High
School. Ms. Shumaker,
during her high school
career, has been part of
band and drama, playing the
clarinet, the bass clarinet
and marching in the Color
guard where she was Captain
her Senior Year. She has
also sung in several musical
dramas staged at Chipley
High School. Ms. Shumaker
plans on attending Chipola
then a University dreaming
to eventually study Voice at
Julliard in New York City
and plans a career in
singing and songwriting.

Logo Contest Winner
Local artist Dale Estka of Sunny
Hills was awarded a $100 prize
for winning the logo contest
recently held by the Washington
County Arts Council. The purpose
of the contest was to develop a
logo that best portrays the
vision of the council. The
mission of the WCAC includes
arts education, publicity of
local and regional arts events,
and nurturing a fertile
environment for the growth of
the arts within our community
through theatre, gallery,
writers and special events.

Scholarship Winner 2008
The Washington County Arts
Council offered a $500
scholarship to a graduating
Washington County Senior
pursuing a college degree in
one of the Fine Arts.
The winner was
determined by an essay on
how the Arts has or will
influence the course of his
or her life. By encouraging students in
the study of the Arts, the WCAC hopes to contribute to
the development of future
artists or an appreciation
for the arts which insures
future audiences.
